2015 | ANNEX TO THE BIBILOTHEQUE | speculation in camera
program: PUBLIC LIBRARY | location: PARIS, FRANCE | status: academic STUDY
The project site for the Annex for the Bibliotheque Sainte‐Geneviève Library is on the corner of Rue Valette and Place du Pantheon, Paris, is a place with a rich contex of historical building.
For this project, the elements in the alpha images are all references taken from the site. The photographs of candy jar were combined with the alpha images to make an abstraction of form. The jar gives the building its main shape with a sharp profile of curvature.
The envelope textures are also reference from site like the details of windows, colors of building façade and their shadows which are merged with the texture of Candy Jar to enhance visual aesthetic.
The project addresses through the issues of the site and context by keeping the form mundane and by blending the size and scale of solids and voids with the neighbor buildings.
The corners of the building are cut to fit in the site accordingly.
There are several openings in the building. The major ones follow the shape of the façade and the smaller ones follow the texture. The vertical and horizontal lines of mullions can be seen through the window.
integrating all OF THOSE oldest and newest IDEAS the speculation was to feature a new ARCHITECTURAL HISTORy.
